SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 1-8PM
COFFEE CLUB

From Ian, host of Coffee Club:

This Coffee Club is a fundraiser for Work Hard Stay Hard, the queer dandy skillshare / workweek that happens every year to sustain IDA (an amazing queer sanctuary space in rural Tennessee). I’m not sure if anyone from Prov is going this year, but we wanted to send them some money anyway to help with projects!

cheap coffee / iced coffee / homemade bread / other baked goods / tables to draw at / friends / new friends / open to all. ♥ ian

ALSO, check this out Coffee Club friends! There is a cool thing happening! Maren Jensen, one of the two artists whose work is on the walls at the space this month, is making a community quilt. Read more about it here (under Community Quilt Project at the bottom), and consider bringing some “clean, used/recycled clothing, fabric, scraps, tablecloths, curtains, blankets, prom dresses, spiderman sheets, etc” for her to use. Unfortunately she will be away tomorrow but will be working hard in the space during open hours to make the quilt over the course of the Precious Objects show.

SEPTEMBER 22, 4PM
PANEL DISCUSSION as part of Precious Objects
Textiles, Needlecraft, and Quilting in Art-Making
A discussion speaking to the tension surrounding the idea of textile, needlecraft, and quilting as art forms. Many differentiate between an “art quilt” and a “traditional quilt,” or “art” and “craft.” Why this resistance and insistence on differentiation? Featuring Maren Jensen (artist, Precious Objects), Joan Wyand (AS220 Free Culture Award Recipient), Hollis Mickey (RISD Museum).
