WORKSHOPS

Traveling Tidepool
Friday May 4
5-6:30PM

Hands on learning experience with a visit from the Biomes Marine Biology Center.

A local biologist will set up a display with several mini-tidepools filled with various ocean animals for children to touch and learn about! ( Horseshoe crab! Sea urchin! Spider crab! Sea star! and more!) Kids will also have the opportunity to take their time observing a living display of tidepool inhabitants. We will use our observations for an experiment in drawing, painting, and writing/sharing stories inspired by the visiting sea creatures!

Please pre-register for this event as space is limited!

Cooperation Coloring Book Creation
Friday May 11
4-7PM

Old and young artists are invited to join in the making of a new kind of coloring book.

This event calls for interesting and free thinking artists, young and old! Lets get together and make a simple, but unique, coloring book! One that everyone would want to crack open their crayons for! All ages, all genders, no brands, no perfect lines! Only good ideas and fun drawings. Snacks, supplies, and plenty of inspiration will be provided. However, bring any of your own ideas, source materials, or disdain for corporate-inclined-coloring-books. Participants will receive at least 2 copies of the final creation once it has been printed and stapled together! (This event is brought to you by many who contributed to the new WILD CHILD zine -sharing personal experiences, resources, and different ideas about parenting in hopes to support and expand the community of radical families!)
All ages are encouraged.

Please pre-register for this event, but drop-ins are welcome!

Children’s Gallery Talk and Creation Experiment
Sunday May 13
10AM-12PM and
2-4PM

Take a look around at the artwork in the exhibition and then hear what the artist has to say! Ask any and all questions about it’s making and the stories behind it.
Next, be part of a creation experiment of our own!  Perhaps we will imagine we are early ocean explorers! We could describe the new and preposterous creatures we have spotted and then attempt to illustrate the sea monsters we describe! Or should we take a look right into a mysterious ocean egg-case to fathom what the sea monster may look like once hatched? We could sculpt what we have imagined using clay and found objects!
The results from this creation experiment will be put on display in the gallery.

Please pre-reregister for this event as space is limited!
